It’s clear that we (that’s to say, mankind) defines roles for males and females. What males can do (permission, not ability), females may not be permitted to do; and vice-versa. In the light of the scriptures, namely Genesis when God creates man and woman in his image, heteronormativity can be rejected in so far as it prevents males from doing those things which only females typically do; and vice-versa. (Service is a big one for me). Furthermore, I argue that a Christian of either sex should look for remnants, or clues of the image of God in the other sex. For it follows that if both sexes are created in God’s image and we are commanded to strive to be like our deity (Lev ##, Peter ##), and the sexes have propensities toward different character traits (i.e., fearlessness, compassion) then it would behoove us to take note of those characteristics which we find ourselves lacking and apply them to our character in order to be most like Christ, in whom the fullness of the deity dwells in bodily form.
